Full agreement: VAR recordings revealed in the Vinicius sending-off incident
The Brazilian star landed himself in trouble
A press report has revealed the audio recording of the video assistant referee communications regarding the sending-off of Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, after he was accused of pulling Saliba's hair in the 71st minute of the match against Villarreal in the eighth round of La Liga.
Referee Isidro Diaz de Mera made the decision after reviewing the incident on the screen, prompted by an alert from Alejandro Muniz Ruiz in the video technology room.
According to the Spanish newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Muniz Ruiz flagged the incident to Diaz de Mera, saying: "Isidro, I advise you to review the incident to assess the presence of violent conduct during the goal-scoring process".
Diaz de Mera replied: "Alex, let Puli (the assistant video referee) speak, because your voice keeps cutting out". Pulido Santana, serving as assistant video referee, then stepped in: "Let us know when you reach the screen, Isi".
Reaching the monitor, the referee said: "I am at the screen now". The video technology room talked him through it: "Right, from what we can see, Vinicius pulls the Villarreal player's hair. This incident falls within the same phase of the goal-scoring process".
Diaz de Mera responded: "Excellent, show me a wide shot, I want to see where the attacking phase ends (the development of the incident itself)".
In the background, a voice from the video technology room could be heard: "This is an incident that warrants a red card".
Once the full footage had played, the referee settled on his decision: "Alex, Puli, as far as I am concerned I will resume play by awarding a foul and showing the red card to player number 7 of the home side, are we agreed?".
Back came the word "Agreed" from the video technology team. Diaz de Mera then brandished the red card at Vinicius Junior.
