From the World Cup to Roshn: Al-Fateh sign Jamal Sellami and pit him against Al-Ahli

The Moroccan coach takes a new step in his career

The Saudi Roshn League has landed a World Cup coach. Morocco's Jamal Sellami, the former Jordan national team manager, has officially taken charge of Al-Fateh.

Al-Fateh confirmed Sellami's signing on Thursday to lead the team through the coming period, replacing Khalid Al-Atwi, who was officially sacked from his post.

The Saudi club kept the terms under wraps, though earlier press reports claimed Sellami will stay in charge until the end of the current season.

Al-Fateh pushed the Al-Atwi dismissal and Sellami appointment through only after securing approval from the Saudi Roshn League's financial regulator.

A brutal opener awaits the new man. Sellami's side host Al-Ahli on Friday at the Al Oula Finance Stadium in Al-Ahsa, in the eighth round of the Saudi Roshn League.

The numbers make grim reading. Al-Fateh sit 15th with just 3 points from 3 draws and 4 defeats, still waiting on their first win of the campaign.

Sellami arrives with a glittering CV. His crowning achievement came with Jordan, whom he guided to direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico, the first time in the nation's history.
