Morocco international Yassine Bounou, the Al-Hilal goalkeeper, has caught the eye of River Plate. The Argentine club are weighing up a move for him in the upcoming transfer window, bracing for the departure of their young keeper Santiago Beltran.

Argentine journalist Hernan Castillo reports that Bounou is the only name River Plate are chasing to replace Beltran. He describes the Moroccan as the club's "first, second and third choice" for the role.

The same source says River Plate's management have already opened initial talks with Bounou's entourage. They want to gauge his position and explore whether negotiations over a move can get going in the coming period.

Two things underpin the interest: his vast experience at international level and his known affection for the club. Bounou has previously made clear he'd love to pull on the shirt of "Los Millonarios" one day.

Speaking after the World Cup, he addressed the possibility directly. "It does not depend on me, but if the opportunity arises at some point, that would be a good thing," he said.

Any deal, though, runs through Saudi Arabia. Bounou is under contract with Al-Hilal until the middle of 2028, so his exit will hinge on the club's stance and any negotiations between the two parties.

For now, River Plate view Bounou as their sole option should Beltran leave. They're determined to bolster the position with a goalkeeper who brings serious international pedigree.
