Ferencvaros star Yusuf discusses San Siro opportunity, Amorim’s praise and derby analysis
Ferencvaros striker Bamidele Yusuf is relishing the chance to play against AC Milan at an iconic stadium like San Siro.
For Milan, the task is quite a simple one tonight: they must beat their opponents from Hungary to get back on course in Europe and to keep alive their already slim hopes of getting into the top eight in the table, to get direct last-16 qualification.
However, they are facing a team full of confidence that have not lost in their last 20 games across all competitions. Ferencvaros have also won three out of three in the Europa League too, beating Celtic, Viktoria Plzen and Torreense.
Yusuf spoke at a press conference on the eve of the match against Milan alongside head coach Borbely Balazs. The forward echoes the words if his manager, speaking of the great opportunity a night like this presents.
You have made many sacrifices to get to San Siro…
“When I think back to where I started, it’s truly extraordinary that I can play against one of the best clubs in the world this Thursday. It’s the result of a huge amount of effort, and I’m quite proud of what I’ve achieved. I hope this journey continues for a long time to come.”
Amorim picked you out specifically as a threat to Milan. How does this make you feel? And what is your preferred role?
“Compliments are nice. It means I’m probably doing things the right way. For me, it makes no difference whether I play as a winger or a striker. In both positions, I always try to give my all and have fun on the pitch. It’s certainly significant that a coach of his calibre has mentioned me.”
Did you analyse Milan’s derby win over Inter?
“They played an intense match against Inter, and we analysed the match in detail. However, we can’t draw conclusions based on how the derby unfolded. I’m curious to see how these ninety minutes unfold.”
