Di Francesco praises Milan after Benfica loss and highlights issue: “Look beyond”

“They lost against Benfica, not against the new arrival. That’s understandable; maybe they were better at interpreting the game. Milan have high-quality players; they showed it especially in the second half.
“It’s a different Milan, more aggressive, but also a different Lecce. Last year we were different in the Coppa Italia and in the league. These are games that are not comparable to last year. They are aggressive and more positional.
“AC Milan’s midfield? AC Milan is a team, not just the midfielders. They’ve put Loftus-Cheek in the attacking midfield, sometimes pushed Rabiot up, more midfielders than attacking midfielders.
“If we want to analyse Modric, that’s another analysis; his three-man defence or two-man defence is of little interest to me. Many matches are played in the middle of the pitch. It’s like saying the defensive phase isn’t good.
“Who does it? The defensive line is one thing, but the defensive phase is done as a team. The attackers are the first defenders, at all levels. I don’t think AC Milan’s problem is the midfield. We shouldn’t generalise, but look beyond
