"Despite the departure to Turkey": English judiciary surprises Mohamed Salah with a ruling in absentia

What's the story?

Warrington Magistrates' Court, in the county of Cheshire, has convicted Mohamed Salah in absentia. The Trabzonspor forward failed to disclose who was driving an electric Rolls-Royce "Spectre" worth more than 466,000 euros when it was caught speeding in March 2026.

The Sun reported that the 34-year-old Egyptian never told police who was behind the wheel of the luxury car when a mobile radar clocked it. That silence brought a charge of failing to identify the driver responsible for the offence.

Handed down in August 2026, the court's ruling suspended Salah's driving licence for six months and imposed a fine of 769 euros.

Two summonses to appear in court arrived at his mansion, valued at more than 5 million euros. Salah answered neither, so the court heard the case in his absence and ruled on the available information.

This is not the first time Salah has run into trouble over traffic offences. In 2022 he was caught driving a "Ferrari F8 Tributo" at excessive speed, picking up a fine and three penalty points on his licence.

Back in 2018, cameras also recorded him using a mobile phone while driving near Anfield.
