De Winter left struggling to explain Ferencvaros loss: “It’s mental, everything is mental”
Milan fell to their third defeat in four to begin their Europa League campaign, following up the previous 2-0 and 3-0 defeats to Benfica and Bournemouth respectively with another loss (2-0) without scoring against Ferencvaros.
The hero for the Hungarian side was striker Lenny Joseph, who netted twice in the second half to punish mistakes at the back from Milan. The result puts the Rossoneri outside the top 24 places in the table, meaning they are currently heading for an exit.
De Winter spoke to Sky after the final whistle to give his thoughts on the game. The defender was quite blunt in his assessments after a difficult night, with his words via MilanNews.
What went wrong tonight?
“Nothing went right today, we need to work on that.”
How do you explain it?
“I can’t explain it. We have to work on it, the group has to work on it. It’s hard to talk now.”
Is it a technical or mental issue?
“It’s mental, everything is mental. How we’re playing, how we approach games. It’s all mental.”
Now come the tough challenges to get into at least the top 24…
“Every game is tough. If we’re not careful, we’ll lose like today. We have to do everything we can to win.”
