CM: Cardinale to spend over a week in Italy – the issues he will tackle
Milan returned from their latest Europa League match bruised after a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth. Calciomercato.com write that it was a step back after the victories against Salzburg and Atalanta, one that didn’t sit well with anyone at the club, starting with Cardinale.
The owner wants to send a message to the team and that is why he has arrived in Udine, where Ruben Amorim ‘s team will play against Udinese tomorrow night. He’ll remain in Italy for eight days, until the derby against Inter on Saturday, October 31st.
Why Cardinale will stay for over a week
The first reason for Cardinale’s extended visit is to send a message to the team by accompanying them on an away trip, as already happened against Sassuolo.
Cardinale will be able to gauge the emotional state of the dressing room and Amorim after the Bournemouth collapse, with the aim of nipping in the bud any potential sources of discontent.
A crucial and delicate week lies ahead. First is Udinese, then Bologna in the midweek round, and finally Inter in the first official derby of the season (after the summer friendly played out in Australia).
However, Cardinale’s trip also offers the opportunity to address issues related to the reorganisation of the management. For days, there has been talk of intense negotiations with Markus Krösche, the candidate for the role of Head of Football position.
The German executive has been released from Eintracht Frankfurt and efforts are underway to bring him to Milan. Cardinale’s presence, in this sense, could be a factor in trying to definitively close the deal.
Not only that, but the owner will also to begin preparing for the winter transfer window with the coach. There are three gaps in particular that need to be filled: a central defender, a wing-back and a striker are the positions to monitor.
Last but not least, institutional issues will be dealt with, which will not strictly concern sporting matters. The shareholders’ meeting – scheduled for Thursday October 29 – is an opportunity to discuss current Milan events.
Later in the afternoon, the new stadium will be presented at the Sala Viscontea in Milan’s Castello Sforzesco. Milan and Inter will be united before facing each other on the pitch on Saturday evening. The derby will conclude Cardinale’s mission in Italy to send a strong signal.
