Rogers to score at any time - 11/5 Ladbrokes

All the talk in the build-up to this one has been about the future of Manchester United boss Michael Carrick, with many surprised he will be taking charge of the club for the trip to Chelsea on Saturday (kick-off 12:30pm, live on TNT Sports and HBO Max).

Following the 3-0 home defeat by Bournemouth last Sunday, which left them 16th in the Premier League table, it was widely expected that United would be looking for their fourth manager in just two years, especially following the comments from captain Bruno Fernandes.

Carrick and Fernandes have held clear-the-air talks, and he is expected to return to the starting lineup for what is a must-win game for United, though online bookmakers have them as underdogs at the Bridge.

United have won just twice this season in all competitions, and they are on a run of eight games without a win, which is their worst since the 2015-16 season.

That said, it might not be the worst time to be playing Chelsea, who themselves are enduring a sticky spell with two defeats in their last two, including that 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.

That was only Spurs’ second win at Stamford Bridge in 34 attempts, and it was a convincing one as well. Chelsea were then knocked out of the League Cup on Wednesday, beaten on penalties by Liverpool, following a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Chelsea to give United the blues

This will be the 200th meeting between the two sides, and it’s United who have the edge in the head-to-head with 82 wins compared to Chelsea’s 56, with United doing the double over the Blues last season.

Their 2-1 win at Old Trafford was helped hugely by goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s sending-off after just five minutes. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro were both on target before the latter was also shown the red card on the stroke of half-time.

Trevoh Chalobah pulled a goal back for the visitors late on, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

United also won at Stamford Bridge, back in April, when Matheus Cunha scored the only goal of the game to record only United’s second win in 13 Premier League away games against Chelsea.

Five of those meetings also ended all square, and this is actually the most drawn fixture in Premier League history, with 27 of the previous 68 meetings between the sides finishing level, so the 3/1 that football betting sites are offering on it ending all square seems pretty generous.

With six points and 11 places separating the two sides, we shouldn’t be surprised that the home side are the standout favourites at odds of 5/6 while you can get 13/4 on a United win.

The thing is, though, we all know this United squad are capable of winning; after all, they finished third in the Premier League last season and lost just two of 17 Premier League games under Carrick, but whether there is any way back to finding that form remains to be seen.

The only real statistic in United’s favour is that only Crystal Palace (19) and Ipswich Town (16) have let in more goals than Chelsea's 15 so far, and they have conceded an average of two per game at home, so that could be a sliver of hope for Carrick’s side.

Rogers to step up again

With Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer out for Chelsea, it’s harder to predict who might be among the goals for Xabi Alonso’s side, but Morgan Rogers did step up in midweek and converted from the spot at Anfield.

That was his fifth goal of the season, since making the move from Aston Villa, and four of those have come in the league against Fulham, Arsenal, Hull and Bournemouth.

He also has a pretty good record against United, with two goals in four appearances while at Villa Park.

Premier League betting sites are offering 11/5 on him scoring at any time, or you can get 7/1 on him scoring first, as he has done three times already this season. I prefer the former.
