It’s now been revealed that the ‘offer’ has been deemed too low by the Serie A side, although with our club.s track record when it comes to lowballing selling clubs, we shouldn’t be too surprised.

22 year old Gineitis was high on Martin O’Neill’s list of players when it came to replacing the outgoing Arne Engels, as he’s a player who possesses great physical attributes, as well as being the energetic presence we require in our midfield.

Martin O’Neill is an admirer of the 29 times capped Lithuanian international, and has asked the Celtic Park hierarchy to try and make a deal happen between the clubs. “Leave it to me,” Michael Nicholson possibly said.

However now Toro Goal claims the Serie A outfit knocked back an approach from their hoops counterparts as it did not come close to their asking price which is said to be close to £9million.

The outlet reports: “The potential arrival of Mandragora at Torino FC 906 is not linked to a possible departure of Gineitis.

“Torino wants a midfielder regardless, to replace Ilić. For the Lithuanian, there was an attempt by Celtic FC over the weekend, but the offer was deemed too low: without any raises, Gineitis stays at Toro.”

Martin O’Neill will be disappointed in seeing chances of securing the services one of his primary targets being scuppered, but he can console himself with the news that deals for two other identified midfield targets are almost close to completion.

19 year old Dutch youth international Joel van den Berg is poised to join from PSV while Danish midfield man Oliver Sorensen is also on the verge of a loan switch from Parma.
