Boban slams Bruno Fernandes: ‘United won’t have a strong future if he’s the best player’

It’s safe to say that former Milan midfielder and Sky Sport Italia pundit Zvonimir Boban is not a fan of Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes, claiming that the Premier League side ‘will not have a present or future at a strong level as long as he is the best player’.

Fernandes was named in the Manchester United starting line-up for their visit to the Stadio Sinigaglia to take on Como in the Champions League league phase on Wednesday evening.

Boban critisicm of Bruno Fernandes ahead of Como vs. Manchester United

Boban was among the pundits in the studio for Sky Sport Italia’s coverage of the Como vs. Manchester United match and was asked for his thoughts on United’s captain and star player, Bruno Fernandes.

The Portugal international spent five years in Italy at the beginning of his career with stints at Novara, Udinese and Sampdoria, before moving to Sporting CP in 2017.

Boban feels that the United captain is a ‘good player’ but feels that they will not be able to compete at the highest levels ‘as long as he is the best player’.

“Bruno Fernandes is a good player, but they are acting as if he’s a top star, and he does not belong at that level of football,” Boban told Sky Sport Italia.

“As long as he is the best player at Manchester United, then Manchester United will not have a present or future at a strong level. We are talking about a perfectly good player, he understands football, moves in spaces, reads it well, but he is a very long way off the level of what ought to be a leader at a club like Manchester United.”
