Mikel Arteta hailed the mentality of his Arsenal players after they ended a challenging week with a 2-0 win over Everton.

The Gunners played Bayern Munich in Germany on Wednesday, drawing 2-2, which followed last Sunday’s win over Nottingham Forest.

“We’re very happy with the week because we were given a terrible schedule,” Arteta said.

“Playing Sunday afternoon, Wednesday night in Munich, coming here really late on Thursday and having to play against a really tough opponent on Saturday at 3pm.

“We have overcome every hurdle and I love the mentality of the team and the quality we’ve shown today.”

Arteta praised his central defensive duo of Ezri Konsa and Gabriel, who both scored in the win.

“He’s a clear example of when I’m talking about the mentality of the team,” Arteta said on Gabriel, who shook off an injury worry during the game.

“The mentality of the team is mentality of the individuals within the team, and Gabi is a brilliant example of that.

“Immediately he says he wants to continue then scores a goal to help us win the game. That’s what we need from our players.”

Konsa has quickly settled into life at Arsenal and Arteta was full of praise for the England international’s adaptation.

“Unbelievable,” Arteta said.

“To come to a club like Arsenal, with no pre-season, when Saliba is here and other players are already here, to position yourself in that manner with that naturality and performing at the level he’s doing and having chemistry and a partnership with Gabi that’s so solid, it’s very difficult to do and we’re lucky to have him.”
