Liverpool lost Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid back in 2025.

The 15-time European champions paid a bargain £10m to release the right-back from his contract one month early. Alexander-Arnold, 28, inked a five-year deal at the Bernabeu and embarked on what was supposed to be a dream move to the Spanish capital.

Things haven’t gone to plan however.

His first season in La Liga was pockmarked by injuries and a huge drop in form when he did play. And over the summer Madrid concluded a deal for Denzel Dumfries - pushing the England international down the pecking order.

Third-choice Trent wants out of Madrid

It’s now been established that Trent is the third-choice right-back for Los Blancos behind not only Dumfries but converted midfielder Federico Valverde.

Worse still it’s now been reported in Defensa Central that Madrid want to sign Pedro Porro from Spurs.

Therefore it looks like game over for Alexander-Arnold under Jose Mourinho with a return to the Premier League - and in particular to Liverpool - now on the cards.

Although the Reds would have to pay a hefty transfer fee as well as a bumper wage package it’s been claimed in Spain that decision-makers inside Anfield are now looking at the feasibility of bringing Trent home.

Liverpool looking into Trent Alexander-Arnold deal

Liverpool have sorely missed his playmaking capabilities from right-back with neither Conor Bradley nor Jeremie Frimpong managing to replace those talents.

Ronald Araujo is now in possession of the starting shirt but there’s little doubt that Trent fits better.

And a second report in Defensa Central is now claiming that the player himself is beginning to warm up to the idea of returning to his homeland.

With Valverde and Dumfries ahead of him in the queue - and potentially Porro to come - he is running out of opportunities to impress.

Welcome Trent back

Trent has totalled less than 400 minutes so far this season - featuring for a humiliating one-minute cameo in El Clasico - and already looks to be at the end of the road.

Some fans would take some time to get used to the idea of Trent returning after his acrimonious departure. But he is a Liverpool man at heart - and given the opportunity to sign him the club need to welcome back one of their own with open arms.
