From Munich to the podium

England's Harry Kane has capped an extraordinary season with another individual honour. The Bayern Munich striker landed the Gerd Müller Trophy for the world's best marksman at the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony, reward for his blistering form in Bavaria and with the national team.

The England captain was unstoppable this term. He scored 73 goals and provided 8 assists, driving Bayern Munich to three trophies in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the German Super Cup. That haul cemented his place among the finest strikers on the planet.

London stages the 2026 Ballon d'Or ceremony this evening, Monday, the first time the event has ever been held in the English capital. The football world waited eagerly to see who would walk away with the game's biggest individual prizes.

Sweden's Viktor Gyökeres, now at Arsenal, had taken the Gerd Müller Trophy at the 2025 ceremony. This year it passes to Kane, a nod to the sheer volume of goals he delivered across the campaign.

France Football organise the seventieth edition of the ceremony to honour the world's best footballers for the 2025-2026 season. It is an annual tradition that gathers the game's leading stars to celebrate their individual and collective success.

For the fifth time in the award's history, achievements are judged by the football season rather than the calendar year. The assessment window runs from 3 August 2025 to 19 July 2026, allowing judges to weigh up what players produced across every competition throughout the season.
