How to watch NYCFC take on Atlanta United in second-to-last home game
There are only three games left in the Major League Soccer regular season and two more home games for New York City FC. The Pigeons’ rough 2026 season continues, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel: the end. But to get there, they have to first play against Atlanta United FC. After sharing the points in a disappointing draw last month, the Georgia side will come to the Big Apple for a vital meeting.
NYCFC is not expected to make the postseason, as they sit in twelfth place in the Eastern Conference and remain four points out of a wild card spot. But for the fans, winning their final two home matches, including redeeming themselves against Atlanta after they failed to hold on to the win, is a must. More importantly, they need one more win to ensure they do not end the year with fewer points than the 37 gained in the inaugural season.
Moreover, NYCFC needs at least one more win to not have the fewest wins in a season in club history, which was nine in 2023. The Queens side also could easily face their second-worst season point-wise, even with one win, as they had 41 points in their 2023 campaign. So, regardless, the team is facing records that they do not want to achieve.
But Atlanta is also not doing well this year. They have lost their last three games, and maybe NYCFC can secure three points this time around because they are at home. Nevertheless, hope is one thing, and putting words into action is another. The Boys in Blue have struggled at home, and still sit at just four wins this season. That is why, at the very least, it is important to win for the supporters.

Final notes
After his late-goal heroics against Orlando City SC, it would be great to see Jonathan Shore get the start against Atlanta, and maybe rest someone like Andrés Perea. Shore was really good when he was on the pitch, and his goal should be rewarded. He has also not played as much as he was expected to this season. Listen, when all is said and done, NYCFC is not making the postseason. So, why not give the kids a chance?
