‘We are there’ – Maresca on Man City loss to PSG and what Luis Enrique told him afterwards
Enzo Maresca insists Manchester City are “close” to Paris Saint-Germain despite suffering a 4-2 defeat in the Champions League.
City found themselves 3-0 down at half-time against Luis Enrique’s side, but Maresca was encouraged by their response after the break and believes they created enough to take something from the game.
“I think we are there, to be honest,” Maresca said. “My feeling is that we are there, we are close.
“The reason why, for me, we struggle first half is because we concede two goals and when you’re on the pitch, you know that it’s already difficult against them and then you think, ‘Oh my God, we are 2-0 down now.’
“It becomes even more difficult.”
City improved in the second half but were unable to complete the comeback, with Maresca revealing PSG boss Enrique felt his side had enjoyed some fortune.
“But second half, I think we create enough chances to deserve something more, to be honest,” Maresca added.
“Luis at the end told me that they have been quite lucky in the 95 minutes.
“But we lost, and we can learn from that and move on.”
