PSG are content to stick with their current first choice goalkeeper for now – although it feels like a big signing is coming at some point.

Get French Football News Now are reporting that there are no plans for PSG to sign a new goalkeeper, despite some uncertainty about the long term viability of Matvey Safonov as the main starter.

They cite Canal+ in France as saying that the club are “satisfied” with the Russian goalkeeper’s form this season, which has been a mixture of above and below average performances.

PSG in no rush to sign Safonov replacement

There has been talk of a new goalkeeper in Paris for some time now. Zion Suzuki was linked in the summer, but went to Aston Villa instead.

Safonov was never really signed to be first choice, and has was catapulted into the starting spot by Lucas Chevalier’s struggles last season. The reality is that Safonov is not on the level of Gianluigi Donnarumma or other top tier keepers. It’s no surprise that there are regular links with other options.

But for now he’s doing just fine, and PSG are clearly in no rush to replace him – even if it feels likely that they will eventually try again to find a major upgrade.

In other news…

PSG lost several key players during this week’s win over Barcelona, and we now have an update on both Marquinhos and Ousmane Dembele.

They weren’t the only players lost during the game – the news that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has ruptured his ACL is devastating for PSG.

Internal tension has apparently been building at PSG over the treatment of January signing Dro, who it’s felt is getting special treatment.
