Luis Enrique is regarded by many as the best manager in Europe at the moment, so his words on Goncalo Ramos should be taken note of.

Speaking to Alessandro Schiavone of MilanNews, the Paris Saint-Germain coach was asked about whether he considers summer signing Ferran Torres to be an upgrade on Ramos, who was a club-record signing for Milan.

“I think Gonçalo Ramos was a sensational player for me, as a coach. You may have a different opinion! Gonçalo Ramos did everything! He was here for three years and we won almost everything. He was very important!”

When asked about Torres being more involved and having a better scoring rate, Enrique said: “That’s because Ferran is a different player, with greater mobility and a better ability to manage offensive plays. But I can’t say anything negative about a player like Gonçalo Ramos!”

What the numbers say

In his first season with Milan, Ramos has so far logged 655 minutes of playing time, spread across eight appearances (two in the Europa League and six in Serie A). His season tally so far reads two goals – one in each competition, most recently on Thursday – plus one assist in the league.

These numbers echo his time in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, where the 25-year-old tallied 45 goals and 10 assists in 131 appearances over a three-year spell with PSG. In short, he was not prolific, but played a brilliant supporting role for the other star names.

Meanwhile, Torres has taken to PSG like a duck to water, scoring seven goals and providing one assist in his first nine appearances overall across Ligue 1 and the Champions League, all in just 519 minutes.
