Real Madrid Sack Xabi Alonso After Spanish Super Cup Defeat, Alvaro Arbeloa Named New Head Coach

Real Madrid have confirmed that they have parted ways with Xabi Alonso.
Alonso was named head coach of the Spanish powerhouse last summer, succeeding Carlo Ancelotti at the Bernabeu helm.
However, the La Liga giants have since confirmed that the former Bayer Leverkusen boss has left the club following Sunday’s Spanish Super Cup loss to rivals Barcelona.
Alonso leaves Real Madrid
“Real Madrid C. F. wishes to announce that, by mutual agreement between the club and Xabi Alonso, it has been decided to bring his time as first team coach to an end,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“Xabi Alonso will always carry the affection and admiration of all Madridistas because he is a Real Madrid legend and has always represented the values of our club. Real Madrid will always be his home.
“We would like to thank Xabi Alonso and all his coaching staff for their hard work and dedication throughout this time, and wish them the best of luck in this new stage of their lives.”
Arbeloa takes over Bernabeu reins
Real Madrid also announced that Alvaro Arbeloa would take over first team duties following Alonso’s exit, adding: “Real Madrid C. F. would like to announce that Alvaro Arbeloa will be the new first team coach.”
Arbeloa's first game as Real Madrid boss will be the welcome of Levante this weekend as Los Blancos look to close the gap on league leaders Barcelona.
