Mbappé capitalises on an error by a Barcelona defender and puts Real Madrid ahead

Deserved lead

Real Madrid struck first in the Clasico, Kylian Mbappe pouncing on 42 minutes to punish a muddle in the Barcelona defence and beat goalkeeper Joan Garcia.

Diomande whipped in a cross from the left and Gerard Martin failed to clear it cleanly. The ball ricocheted off Mbappe and rolled towards the Barcelona goal, leaving the hosts stunned.

It was a crucial lead for Madrid heading into the break. One defensive lapse, and Barcelona were behind at the worst possible moment.
