Real Betis vs Real Madrid Match Preview

Real Betis welcome Real Madrid to the Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla on Friday, September 4, with kick-off at 20:00 BST (21:00 CEST).

Real Madrid enter the fixture as one of the early favourites for the LaLiga title after making a perfect start to the 2026–27 campaign. Xabi Alonso's side have won all three of their opening league matches, collecting nine points and scoring 10 goals in the process. Madrid opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Espanyol before producing a convincing 4-1 win away to Real Sociedad, while they followed that result by beating newly promoted Málaga 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu. Kylian Mbappé has already made a strong start to the campaign, while Jude Bellingham and Vinícius Júnior have also provided significant attacking quality.

Real Betis, meanwhile, have collected six points from their first three matches under Manuel Pellegrini. The hosts began the campaign with narrow 1-0 victories over Real Sociedad and Valencia before suffering their first defeat last weekend, when they were beaten 5-2 away to Levante. Betis finished fifth in LaLiga last season to secure Champions League football for the first time in 21 years, but they will need to recover quickly from the Levante defeat with a meeting against Real Madrid followed by the start of their European campaign.

The hosts will also take confidence from their recent record against Madrid at home. Los Verdiblancos are unbeaten in their last four home meetings with Real Madrid, including a 1-1 draw in April, while their previous home victory over the visitors came in March 2025 when they won 2-1. Dani Ceballos has also returned to Betis from Real Madrid on a permanent transfer, although the midfielder may not be fit enough to feature against his former club.

Real Madrid will be expected to control possession and create the majority of the chances, with Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Bellingham providing the main attacking threat. Betis' best route to goal is likely to come through Antony, Isco and Rodrigo Riquelme, while the hosts will look to exploit their strong home record against Madrid and frustrate the visitors' attacking players.

Real Betis Team News and Key Players

Real Betis will be hoping to bounce back from their heavy defeat to Levante when they take on Real Madrid.

Dani Ceballos has returned to Betis from Real Madrid, although he could lack the match fitness required to feature against his former club. Giovani Lo Celso, Diego Conde and Aitor Ruibal are also among the players facing fitness concerns.

Potential starting XI: Álvaro Vallés; Héctor Bellerín, Diego Llorente, Natan, Fran García; Marc Roca, Pablo Fornals; Antony, Isco, Rodrigo Riquelme; Cucho Hernández.

Antony and Isco will provide much of Betis' attacking creativity, while Riquelme and Cucho Hernández will also be expected to cause problems for the Real Madrid defence.

Real Madrid Team News and Key Players

Real Madrid head into the game with a number of injury concerns, with Raúl Asencio, Ferland Mendy, Thiago Pitarch and Rodrygo continuing their recoveries.

Éder Militão is unlikely to return before the international break, while Aurélien Tchouaméni and Endrick remain doubts after missing recent matches.

Potential starting XI: Thibaut Courtois; Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté, Dean Huijsen, Marc Cucurella; Federico Valverde, Bernardo Silva; Arda Güler, Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Júnior; Kylian Mbappé.

Mbappé has made an excellent start to the campaign and will be the biggest threat to the Betis defence, while Vinícius Júnior and Bellingham provide further attacking quality.

Bellingham has already made a significant contribution during the opening weeks of the season, with Real Madrid scoring 10 goals across their three league matches.

Previous Head to Heads

  • Real Madrid have had the better of the recent matchup, winning two of the last five LaLiga meetings between the sides.

  • The most recent meeting ended 1-1 in April 2026, with the points shared at the Estadio La Cartuja de Sevilla.

  • Real Madrid recorded a 5-1 LaLiga victory at home against Betis in January 2026.

  • Betis won 2-1 when the sides met at the Benito Villamarín in March 2025, securing all three points in LaLiga.

  • Real Madrid had previously beaten Betis 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu in September 2024.

  • The previous meeting in May 2024 ended 0-0 in LaLiga, meaning three of the last five encounters have been draws or decided by a single goal.

  • Real Betis are unbeaten in their last four home meetings with Real Madrid, making Friday's LaLiga clash a particularly difficult test for the visitors.

Real Madrid have not won away to Betis in their last four visits, making Friday's fixture another difficult test for the visitors.

Score Prediction: Real Betis 1-2 Real Madrid

Real Madrid's perfect start makes them the favourites heading into Friday's meeting, although Betis' impressive recent home record against the visitors means this should be a competitive contest.

The hosts will look to make the most of home advantage and exploit any weaknesses in Madrid's defence, but the visitors have considerably more attacking firepower.

Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior and Bellingham could ultimately prove the difference, with Real Madrid expected to maintain their 100% start to the LaLiga season.
