He is in charge of the governance file.

Barcelona have made an unexpected and controversial move, strengthening their corporate governance department with a political heavyweight. Joaquim Forn, the former interior minister of the Catalan government, arrives as the club's new head of institutional governance.

According to the programme "La Porteria" on Betevé, and confirmed by the newspaper "Mundo Deportivo", Forn will take up the position of head of the corporate governance department at the Catalan club.

An appointment with one goal: restoring discipline

The board approved Forn's appointment last Monday, hoping to strengthen the club's governance model. He will also work to ensure the decision-making process aligns with the objectives the board sets.

Barcelona now enter a new phase in how they run their institution, leaning on long political and legal experience to regulate decisions within one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Who is Joaquim Forn?

A law graduate with a long political career in Barcelona city council, Forn became interior minister in the Catalan government in July 2017.

His political career was turned upside down just a few months later. He resigned in October of the same year after being tried on charges of calling for the independence referendum on 1 October.

Prison followed. Forn was held in Estremera alongside eight other ministers, and in 2019 he received a sentence of ten years and six months. A long legal battle ended with a pardon in 2021, and his release.

In recent years, Forn has worked within the legal services of the Mediapro group. Now he brings that experience, strategic vision and institutional leadership to strengthen corporate governance at Barcelona Football Club.
