Bernardo Silva must start every big Real Madrid match from now

Real Madrid's win over Barcelona has been talked about extensively on this website, and it will be talked about once again, but for different reasons. There were a lot of really good performers for the club during that win at Camp Nou last weekend, and many of those players will hope to keep their starting spot intact in future games as well.

Some of them have been nailed-on starters all season long and will keep their place, while others will try to convince Mourinho that that game was not a fluke and that they will be ready to go again in that position should Mourinho count on them. One of those players in the latter category is Bernardo Silva, who, although he hasn't started many of Real Madrid's games as of late, did feature from the beginning against Barcelona last weekend.

Bernardo Silva is a one-of-one profile in this Real Madrid team

Silva gave a very good performance on the night and was able to dictate the play, even at times, without having the ball with him, which was very good to see. Silva was one of Real Madrid's more impressive players on the night, and he proved that it was absolutely crucial to start him in every big game. He is a bit on the older side now, so it would not be possible for the Portuguese midfielder to start every single game for the club.

However, whenever Real Madrid have a big game next, whether it is a Champions League clash against Arsenal or Atletico Madrid in the league, Real Madrid must have Silva in the starting eleven. The Los Blancos have more control on the pitch whenever the midfielder is playing, and they have a better sense of urgency as well as a better sense of structure going forward with the ball. They're able to evade the press more easily, and they look like they actually have a game plan with the ball. Those things are very important, and Real Madrid must build on that and have Silva in the middle of every single thing that they do.

Obviously, if he does not have a good game or if he is tired by the 70th or the 80th minute, Mourinho has some brilliant midfielders to bring on for some energy. But strictly talking about what he is able to provide on paper, there is no one in this team who can do what he does on the pitch: be able to control and dictate the play from deep and be an important cog in the midfield.

Whether Mourinho actually starts him in every big game or not remains to be seen, but the blueprint is there for the manager to take note of. He needs to understand the gravity of the situation here. He needs to know that starting Silva or even Arda Guler in midfield will be much more beneficial for Real Madrid going forward. It seems like he has already understood that, but it remains to be seen whether he replicates this formula in Real Madrid's next big game.
