Barcelona are closing in on a deal for Rodri after having their first bid knocked back, but could soon lose Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain.
Barca sent their first bid for Rodri in recent days, after it became clear he would prefer to head there than Real Madrid. Manchester City won't stand in his way, but want to receive £60million for the midfielder.
Barca opened the bidding at around £38million, and were swiftly told that was not going to be enough.
Rodri was told he'd be expected back at City to recover from his recent back surgery until such a point as the Spanish club put up an acceptable fee.
According to insider Ben Jacobs, Barca are 'closing in' on a deal for Rodri.
Terms are already in place on the midfielder's side, and club-to-club talks have progressed since the opening bid was knocked back.
Jacobs states a new bid from Barca is going to be 'imminent.'
Ferran Torres exit progressing
A big outgoing has been on the cards at the club this summer, too, with a lot of speculation of the scorer of Spain's World Cup-winning goal, Ferran Torres.
It has been suggested for weeks that the forward has opened himself up to a move to European champions PSG, and Fabrizio Romano has reiterated that view.
He states Barca expect to receive an opening bid from PSG officials shortly for Torres. Both his camp and PSG have informed the Spanish side that he has verbally agreed personal terms.
Reports in Spain state Barca want to receive around £56million for Torres, while PSG feel £47million is a fairer reflection of the player.
The higher end of that would obviously ensure that Barca can pay Manchester City for Rodri without falling too far out of pocket, which will be ideal for a club whose financial issues have been well documented of late.
Whether PSG will commit to the sort of fee Barca want to receive remains to be seen, but knowing that Torres wants to leave the club, with only a year left on his deal, they're not in the strongest negotiating position.
Neither, though, are City for Rodri. There have been suggestions that the English giants don't mind losing their star midfielder for nothing in a year's time - Barca probably don't feel the same about Torres.
