What's the story?

Jose Mourinho has sparked a wave of criticism for his behaviour during the injury to Racing Santander's Alvaro Mantilla. The Real Madrid manager found himself under fire from Toni Freixa, the former candidate for the Barcelona presidency, who recalled the moment Mourinho once assaulted Tito Vilanova, Pep Guardiola's former assistant.

It all unfolded during Real Madrid's clash with Racing Santander, a game the Royal side led 3-0 by half-time. Controversy followed close behind, most notably the penalty awarded to Kylian Mbappe and Mantilla's injury around half an hour in.

The Racing full-back limped off with a knee injury after falling during one of the attempts inside the penalty area. Fears grew that he had sustained a serious injury, with the medical report still to confirm its nature.

Freixa pounced on the incident to criticise Mourinho's reaction as the player received treatment. Writing on X, he said: "Mourinho is a bad person. Mantilla suffered a cruciate ligament tear, while he was making gestures suggesting that he was throwing himself to the ground."

He didn't stop there. Dredging up the infamous moment Mourinho jabbed his finger into Tito Vilanova's eye during a Real Madrid-Barcelona clash, Freixa added: "He is the same person who put his finger in Tito Vilanova's eye. A bad person and a bad sportsman."
