Hansi Flick's Barcelona opened their LaLiga title defence with a routine victory
  • Champions Barcelona are already top of the pile after a 3-0 opening victory

  • The Xabi Alonso era at Real Madrid began with a hard-fought win over Osasuna

  • Elche were the only promoted side to avoid an opening defeat

Hansi Flick and his Barcelona side made the perfect start in their defence of LaLiga as they eased past a Mallorca outfit that finished with nine men on matchday one.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, only had a Kylian Mbappe penalty to thank as they just about got the better of Osasuna at the Bernabeu.

The second round of LaLiga games comes at us from Friday through until Monday and here are our predictions for all 10 Spanish top flight games.

Real Betis vs Alaves (Friday, 8.30pm)

Real Betis were pegged back in their season opener at promoted Elche after taking the lead and they now face an Alaves side with three points on the board already and no losses in the previous five head-to-heads.

Score prediction: Real Betis 1-1 Alaves

Mallorca vs Celta Vigo (Saturday, 4pm)

Celta Vigo did the double over Mallorca last season and Jagoba Arrasate's home side are handcuffed here after picking up two red cards in the loss to Barcelona. Celta were the better side for long spells despite losing to Getafe.

Score prediction: Mallorca 0-2 Celta Vigo

Atletico Madrid vs Elche (Saturday, 6.30pm)

Diego Simeone's Atleti made a poor start as they surrendered the lead and lost to Espanyol. Elche were worthy of a point at home against Real Betis but may not be able to add to their tally given they have lost their last eight away to Atletico, scoring just once.

Score prediction: Atletico Madrid 2-0 Elche

Levante vs Barcelona (Saturday 8.30pm)

It was business as usual for Barca last week as Raphinha, Ferran Torres and Lamine Yamal steered them to victory at Mallorca. Levante, on their top flight return, suffered a 92nd-minute defeat at Alaves and things are not about to get any easier.

Score prediction: Levante 0-4 Barcelona

Osasuna vs Valencia (Sunday, 4pm)

Osasuna gave a masterclass in defensive organisation despite losing 1-0 at Real Madrid on Tuesday. They drew more games than anyone in LaLiga last season, ending level 16 times including both games against Valencia. Another stalemate beckons between this pair after Los Che opened with a point against Real Sociedad.

Score prediction: Osasuna 1-1 Valencia

Villarreal vs Girona (Sunday, 6.30pm)

Villarreal made the most of indiscipline as they eased past Oviedo 2-0 on matchday one. The Yellow Submarine are on their own patch again against a Girona side beaten 3-1 at home by Rayo Vallecano following their own red card woes, as goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga got his marching orders.

Score prediction: Villarreal 3-0 Girona

Real Sociedad vs Espanyol (Sunday, 6.30pm)

Espanyol were surprise opening weekend winners against Atletico Madrid while Real Sociedad took a point from a trip to Valencia. The Basque outfit have won the last six meetings in San Sebastian and can extend that run.

Score prediction: Real Sociedad 2-1 Espanyol

Oviedo vs Real Madrid (Sunday, 8.30pm)

Oviedo allowed Villarreal 25 shots at goal last week and may struggle to contain Real Madrid in this first meeting between the teams since a 2012 friendly. Xabi Alonso's side struggled to break down Osasuna but may do better now.

Score prediction: Oviedo 0-3 Real Madrid

Athletic Bilbao vs Rayo Vallecano (Monday, 6.30pm)

Rayo Vallecano will be welcome visitors to San Memes as Athletic Bilbao can point to six wins and a draw in the last seven LaLiga meetings between these sides. Both sides impressed in week one and a high-scoring tussle is forecast.

Score prediction: Athletic Bilbao 3-2 Rayo Vallecano

Sevilla vs Getafe (Monday, 8.30pm)

Sevilla came from 2-0 down to restore parity before losing to Athletic Bilbao last week, while Getafe produced a smash and grab win at Celta Vigo. Getafe have been blanked in the last three meetings and the Andalusians can make home advantage count.

Score prediction: Sevilla 2-0 Getafe
