Nottingham Forest put their Premier League struggles to one side when recording a surprising 3-0 Europa League knockout play-off first-leg victory against Fenerbahce in Istanbul last week.

The visitors will have to come out firing if they are to try and overturn this three-goal deficit, but it is likely to prove a hugely difficult task away from home and the Turkish giants have been far from solid in defence in recent games.

Forest, meanwhile, backed up that win with a strong display in an unfortunate 1-0 Premier League loss at home to Liverpool last weekend.

Team news

The home side will be without Willy Boly, Chris Wood, Matz Sels, John Victor and Nicolo Savona for this clash.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Elliot Anderson, Ryan Yates and Igor Jesus are all one booking away from a suspension, so recently appointed head coach Vitor Pereira could ring the changes given their comfortable advantage.

Fener central defender Milan Skriniar sustained a groin injury during the first leg and will be out of action for a while, with the visitors also set to be without Caglar Soyuncu (muscle), Anderson Talisca, Ederson (both hamstring) and Edson Alvarez (ankle).

Jayden Oosterwolde is both injured and suspended for the second leg, while former Man Utd midfielder Fred is also out due to a yellow card received in added time last week.

The stats

The home side lost just two of their eight games during the league phase and finished 13th in the standings with 14 points.

Forest have lost just one of their last four home games in all competitions, while they have won three of their four games at the City Ground in the Europa League.

Fener finished the league phase in 19th place with 12 points from eight games and they have not kept a clean sheet across their last five games in all competitions.

Before defeat at home to Forest, Fenerbahce had gone six games without defeat, with their previous loss a 1-0 home reverse to Aston Villa in this tournament.

Prediction

Forest have enjoyed their Europa League campaign up to now and have provided their home supporters with plenty to cheer about with three wins in four at home in this competition.

They recorded an impressive 4-0 home win to Hungarian outfit Ferencvarosi last time out on home turf and they will be full of confidence following last week's comfortable victory.

Fener will have to come out of the blocks quickly if they are to get back into this match-up and that could open up the space for Forest to put this tie to bed.
