Stepanov off after just half an hour and in tears during Feyenoord v FC Utrecht

Artem Stepanov was in tears during the first half of Feyenoord v FC Utrecht. The visitors' forward suffered an early injury and left the pitch in tears. It remains doubtful whether he will be able to make his debut for Ukraine.

Disaster struck for Stepanov at De Kuip after half an hour. He twisted awkwardly following a challenge with Feyenoord defender Givairo Read and it was immediately clear something was badly wrong.

The FC Utrecht striker sat down on the turf, visibly emotional. Treatment could not help and Stepanov had to come off for Anthony Correia.

Stepanov made a flying start at FC Utrecht, despite the club's poor start to the season. The forward scored in each of his first five league matches, matching Rafael van der Vaart's mark from 2001.

That form earned Stepanov a call-up to the Ukraine national team. Friday marks the start of the Nations League group stage, with Hungary the opponents.

Whether Stepanov will recover in time and still report for Ukraine remains unclear. The Utrecht player has represented various youth teams, but has yet to feature for the senior national side.
