Of all people, loanee Shiloh 't Zand hurts Feyenoord badly at De Kuip
Feyenoord dropped costly points in the Eredivisie on Saturday evening. Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side looked set to beat Fortuna Sittard at De Kuip after Luciano Valente put them ahead, but had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Feyenoord loanee Shiloh 't Zand struck late for the visitors and celebrated his goal at De Kuip with striking exuberance.
With Jeremiah St. Juste unavailable, Van Bronckhorst had to make one change to the starting XI from the 1-1 draw against PSV. Javi López started at left-back, with Mármol partnering Tsuyoshi Watanabe in central defence. Jakub Moder withdrew because of an injury. Fortuna Sittard coach Danny Buijs gave Mohamed Ihattaren a start after a pre-match fitness test.
Feyenoord took charge from the first whistle and soon created chances. Mattijs Branderhorst saved Anis Hadj Moussa's effort after ten minutes, then Valente hit the post. Gjivai Zechiël had the best chance, rounding the goalkeeper after a fine through-ball from Valente, only to find the side-netting from a difficult angle.
Sitting deep in their own half, Fortuna left Feyenoord with all the initiative. The Rotterdam side had as much as 76 per cent possession in the first half but could not break down the visitors. Fortuna also lost Rodrigo Guth to injury after just under half an hour, with Iván Márquez replacing him.
After the break, Feyenoord kept pressing for the opener. Valente combined with Zechiël shortly after the restart, but Branderhorst reacted superbly to deny him from close range. Fortuna then lost Zeefuik to injury and brought on Kristoffer Peterson in his place.
Hadj Moussa finally broke through on the right after an hour, beating his opponent, going round the outside and laying the ball back perfectly for Valente. The midfielder fired home from close range to make it 1-0, his fifth Eredivisie goal of the season.
Seeking a second, Feyenoord saw Hadj Moussa curl the ball over after an individual run. Fortuna began to threaten more often at the other end, with Peterson getting a chance and goalkeeper Stijn Ernst called into action. In the 81st minute, Zechiël appeared to have settled the match with a superb curling shot into the far corner. The goal was ruled out because López had been marginally offside earlier in the move.
In the 86th minute, 't Zand came away with the ball after a scramble and fired into the bottom corner to make it 1-1. Feyenoord goalkeeper Ernst did not look good on the goal.
Feyenoord still had around seven minutes, including stoppage time, to find a winner. Valente came close but shot just over through a crowd of players.
