Ajax do not want to sign Zinchenko: ‘They would much rather...’
Ajax have no plans to offer Oleksandr Zinchenko a new contract, according to Lentin Goodijk, Voetbal International's Ajax correspondent.
On Tuesday morning, news emerged that Zinchenko will train with Ajax for now as he works through the final phase of his recovery.
The Ukrainian suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his second match for the Amsterdam club last season. He has not played for Ajax since.
Back at De Toekomst, the 29-year-old remains outside Ajax's contract plans. The club believe they have enough left-backs in their squad.
Ajax already have Caio Henrique, Owen Wijndal, Jofre Torrents and potentially Youri Baas as options in that position. Zinchenko does not fit into those plans. Goodijk also says Ajax have little financial room in the winter.
With the resources they do have, Ajax want to strengthen other positions. "They would much rather bring in a striker or a wide player. Ajax are really lacking runs in behind up front at the moment," he concludes.
