Phil Parkinson has been handed a major fitness boost ahead of Wrexham’s Championship trip to Blackburn Rovers, with several key players returning to the training pitch.

Ben Sheaf is back in full training after a groin injury, while George Thomasson and Max Cleworth were both able to take part in parts of training too.

“Sheafo was back in full training today, Tommo and Max did part of the session so a huge lift for everybody to see those boys out there,” Parkinson said.

“It really thickens up the numbers in the squad and it’s a good start getting those lads back on the training pitch.”

Nathan Broadhead, Josh Windass and Libby Cacace remain further away from a return, however.

Windass is still wearing a protective boot because of an ankle problem, although Parkinson hopes that can be removed over the weekend.

“Josh has got a boot on to protect his ankle at the moment, but I think that comes off at the weekend and then Kevin [Mulholland] and his team can then really start assessing the ankle and look to progress Josh,” he said.

Broadhead is back working on the grass after a thigh injury, with the next stage of his recovery focused on striking the ball again.

“Brody is out on the grass still doing his fitness work, the next stage for him is striking the ball because it was a thigh injury,” Parkinson added.

“But Libby is in the gym at the moment, that’s more of a long-term injury.”
