West Ham United have sacked head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, with former Hammers midfielder Scott Parker lined up to replace him.

The Hammers confirmed the decision to part ways with Espirito Santo after what the club described as a “thorough review” of their start to the campaign, with the board deciding a change was needed to keep their objectives on track.

Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also left the club.

A West Ham statement read: “Following a thorough review of the start to the EFL Championship season, the Board of Directors believe that a change is necessary at this time in order to ensure that the Club’s objectives and expectations remain on track.

“West Ham United would like to thank Nuno, Rui and Rui for their hard work and commitment during their time at the Club, and wish them all the very best for the future.”

In the meantime, Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville will take temporary charge of preparations ahead of Wednesday night’s Championship clash with Cardiff City.

Parker has previously held managerial jobs at Burnley, Fulham and Bournemouth, achieving promotion to the Premier League with each of them.
