West Ham agree terms with Scott Parker to replace Nuno Espírito Santo
West Ham United have agreed terms with Scott Parker to become their new head coach, just hours after parting company with Nuno Espírito Santo.
David Ornstein of The Athletic first reported that the Hammers had struck an agreement with the 46-year-old.
The move follows a swift decision at the London Stadium. As reported earlier on Tuesday, West Ham sacked Espirito Santo after poor start to Championship season, with Parker quickly emerging as the frontrunner to take over.
West Ham are moving quickly and the club hope to have Parker in place in time for their meeting with Cardiff City tomorrow.
There could also be a familiar face alongside him. Mark Noble could join former teammate Parker's backroom team, a move that would bring another figure steeped in the club's history into the dugout. Noble has been working as sporting director at the London Stadium.
Why West Ham want Parker
With the Hammers now in the Championship, promotion is the priority, and that is where Parker's appeal lies. The 46-year-old has a proven record of winning promotion to the Premier League, having achieved the feat with three different clubs.
Parker is also no stranger to West Ham supporters. He won the club's Player of the Year award multiple times during his playing days, and the board believe he understands the culture of the club.
Once the paperwork is completed, Parker will inherit a side that has fallen short of expectations so far this season, with the clock already ticking towards the Cardiff fixture.
