As the next international break draws nearer, American players across the Championship are starting to make their final case to be included in the next USMNT lineup. Two of the players who successfully made their case were major role players in their respective clubs' success; let's take a look at how they fared.
Jack McGlynn back on the scoresheet as Stoke City secures victory against bottom-of-the-table Preston
It's now three consecutive matches unbeaten for Stoke City as they handed a 2-0 defeat to Preston North End on Saturday. The run also extended Stoke City's early-season turnaround to a 10-game stretch, one that has seen the club secure at least a point in nine of those contests.
Jack McGlynn scored the second goal for Stoke City and recorded an assist on the first. He also recorded three shots on target. Luca Bombino started the match for Stoke City, though he only saw 72 minutes of action. He recorded two tackles and drew a yellow card. Caleb Wiley was back in the lineup for Preston North End, though he remained on the bench for the duration of the contest.
West Brom gets a big win against West Ham, moves back into fourth
West Brom extended their renewed unbeaten run to four games with a 3-1 win over West Brom on Saturday. George Campbell played the entire match for West Brom, conceding just one foul in the process.
Sebastian Berhalter helps lead Middlesbrough to a multi-goal win over Charlton
Middlesbrough will enter the next matchday as Championship leaders, guaranteeing such a status with a 3-0 win over Charlton. Sebastian Berhalter recorded the opening goal of the match and an assist on one of Will Lankshear's two goals. Aidan Morris played the entire contest and had a shot on goal, while Max Arfsten came on as a 77th-minute substitute.
What's next?
Next up is a mid-week matchday that will act as the penultimate round of matches before the second international break of the campaign.
The Tuesday, November 3 slate will see McGlynn and Stoke City travel to play Blackburn Rovers, who have lost two of their last three matches. That same day, Campbell will captain West Brom against Southampton. Finally, the American contingent from Middlesbrough will play on Wednesday, taking on a Wrexham side that has lost three of their last four contests.
