The neglected Southampton flop whose exit is surely destined after West Ham
Southampton's 3-2 win at West Ham United saw the entire Saints team give their all.
In the build-up to the game at the London Stadium, there would have been a lot of nervous Saints fans waiting to see if Cyle Larin or Flynn Downes would feature.
So, when the lineups filtered through, and neither first team starter had made the squad due to injury, there would have been many a supporter concerned that a loss was incoming.
Instead, the full team selected by Tonda Eckertt stepped up, with three different goalscorers in Kuryu Matsuki, James Bree, and Lewis Dobbin sticking the knife in.
Daniel Peretz was also superb in between the sticks throughout, as West Ham amassed 28 shots at the Saints net in total.
Yet, the South Coast visitors hung on for a determined three points.
Peretz's fantastic performance
The Peretz from last season has suddenly shown up to the party.
Towards the start of the season, the ex-Bayern Munich stopper wasn't quite at his best, as it would take him until the 11th of October to pick up his first Championship clean sheet.
Now, he has only shipped two goals across his last four second tier outings, with this streak of agile performances the sort of form that made Saints fans fall in love with him last campaign.
Indeed, it was love at first sight when he arrived on the scene mid-way through last season, as he only gave up 19 goals during the 22 regular league matches he was apart of.
He did concede two at the hands of the Hammers, but - on another day - Nuno Espirito Santo's men could have scored a lot more goals to pick up a dramatic victory.
Thankfully, Peretz constantly came to the rescue, with a remarkable 11 saves next to his name at the full time whistle.
It feels like a lifetime ago now that Southampton were settling for error-prone displays from Gavin Bazunu, as there is an argument to say that the 26-year-old is the finest shot stopper in the entire division.
Peretz coming back into his own surely means the end is nigh for this neglected South Coast flop, who must be looking at the exit door more and more, as we head to the January transfer window.
This Saints flop has no future
Peretz is nailed down as Eckert's chosen number one keeper.
There were murmurs earlier in the season that Aaron Ramsdale should come into the side and replace him, when the 6-foot-5 stopper wasn't quite performing at the peak of his powers.
Now, there are no such voices shouting for this change of personnel, with Ramsdale surely aware that he needs to move on from St. Mary's shortly, as first-team minutes are not coming his way anytime soon.
He did have chances to leave the South Coast behind this summer, but the ex-England international didn't take up the offers presented to him.
Football League World have come out to suggest that Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers should be looking at the one-time Arsenal keeper when the window reopens, with both teams suffering from one too many leaky displays this season so far.
Ramsdale also hasn't become a bad keeper overnight, so he would likely do a competent job for either side mentioned.
He is just a victim of his circumstances, as there's no chance in hell Eckert is dropping Peretz anytime soon.
For the sake of his fizzling out career, he should be looking to move on from St Mary's in January, with his exit coming as no surprise to anyone if it did finally occur.
