Parkinson gives updates on Wrexham’s injured stars after draw with Derby
Ben Sheaf, Callum Doyle and Matty James remain injury doubts for Wrexham’s midweek clash with West Brom after missing the 1-1 draw with Derby County.
Boss Phil Parkinson revealed Sheaf is dealing with a groin problem, Doyle has suffered tightness in a groin tendon and James has undergone an epidural after a back spasm.
“Sheafo just struck a ball at the end of training and felt his groin tighten up,” Parkinson said.
“We’ve got to be cautious with Ben but it’s not a serious injury.
“He played so well against Southampton and these three weeks were really important for him.”
On Doyle, Parkinson added: “Callum trained really well and then Wednesday morning, he woke up after Tuesday’s session and felt a tightness in his tendon in his groin, and unfortunately he was ruled out.
“Callum is such an important player to the system and the way we play, but that’s the way it is. You’ve got to adapt.”
James was also ruled out after suffering a back problem during the week.
“Matty, as everyone knows, gives us real football ability in that middle of the pitch,” Parkinson said.
“His back just spasmed up on Tuesday and we sent for a scan. He’s had an epidural in his back and hopefully that’ll settle down sooner rather than later.”
Wrexham’s injury problems were compounded at Pride Park when Josh Windass was forced off after just 15 minutes with an ankle injury.
Parkinson was already without George Thomason, Max Cleworth, Nathan Broadhead and Libby Cacace.
“We’ve had some disruption this week, which has been a real shame,” Parkinson said.
“Unfortunately, we’ve got to ride this bit of a storm.”
Asked whether any of the injured players could return against West Brom, he added: “We’ll know more Monday. They’ll obviously be closer.”
