‘I know the situation we are in and I have lived it before’ – Celestini confirmed as new Burnley boss
Burnley have appointed Fabio Celestini as their new head coach following the departure of Nicky Hayen.
The Swiss coach arrives after most recently managing CSKA Moscow and has also previously enjoyed spells at Basel, Lausanne-Sport and Luzern.
Celestini took charge of Basel in October 2023 and went on to lead the club to a domestic double, winning their first Swiss Super League title in eight years as well as the Swiss Cup.
He has also won promotion with Lausanne-Sport and lifted the Swiss Cup with Luzern, and replaces Hayen, who was sacked after a poor start to the season.
“I look at Burnley and I see a club with big potential and players with real quality, who can help us achieve our supporters’ ambitions,” Celestini said.
“I know the situation we are in, and I have lived it before. Our supporters deserve to see a team playing with belief from the first whistle.”
Burnley chief football officer Diego López believes Celestini has the qualities required to take the club forward.
“Fabio brings the passion, experience and knowledge we were looking for,” López said.
“He showed extraordinary determination and conviction to come to Burnley.
“We want people who truly want to be here and help this club grow. Fabio is a clear example of that.”
