Eckert on Southampton’s win over West Ham and duo’s fitness

Tonda Eckert is hopeful Flynn Downes and Cyle Larin will both be available for Southampton’s clash with QPR after narrowly missing out against West Ham.

The pair were pushing to feature in the 3-2 win at the London Stadium, but late decisions were made to leave them out.

“We were pushing (them) for this game,” Eckert said after his side’s victory.

“I was quite hopeful for them to be involved today, and it was a late call for them not to.

“Flynn even got another injection, so I’m quite positive that they’ll be involved next week.”

Eckert also hailed his side’s win at the London Stadium.Ec

“It’s a tough place to come to against a quality team,” he said.

“We knew that we needed to start strong. That’s what we’ve worked for all week.

“That obviously costs you a lot of energy, so you need to make sure that you go up in that period, and luckily we’ve done that.”
