Eckert issues latest update on injured Southampton striker

Southampton boss Tonda Eckert admits Cyle Larin is a major doubt for the games against West Brom and Preston as the striker continues to manage a hamstring problem.

Larin has been struggling with the issue and Eckert says Saints are weighing up whether it is worth taking any risks before the international break.

Asked whether Larin is a doubt for both upcoming fixtures, Eckert said: “Yeah, it’s a fair assessment.”

“I said this earlier, Cyle knows his body. It’s a decision about how much we want to rush, and I think that’s still open.

“At the same time, if you have something towards the bottom end of your hamstring, it’s always a question of how much risk you want to take.

“Especially if then after you go into an international break, as we do.”

Eckert stopped short of completely ruling Larin out, however.

“So I think we’ll assess it, but I wouldn’t rule out that he might be available.”
