Charlton Athletic vs Sheffield United – Preview
Sheffield United travel to the capital on Saturday afternoon to face Charlton Athletic in the EFL Championship.
The home side have lost four on the bounce, with their most recent result being a 1-0 defeat at home to Bolton Wanderers. The Addicks are now 21st place and just four points above the drop zone.
United are in solid form, currently unbeaten in their last four games. The Blades most recently defeated Preston North End 3-2 on their travels in midweek. The visitors now sit ninth, and just one point off the play-off spots.
Team News
Former Blade Tyler Bindon could star in the back line for Charlton Athletic this weekend. But, Nathan Jones remains without Collins Sichenje with a cruciate ligament injury.
Chris Wilder didn’t have former Leeds United trio Kalvin Phillips, Joe Rothwell and Patrick Bamford as part of his options, but all three could feature in the matchday squad against Charlton.
The Blades have been managing the minutes of the likes of Jairo Riedewald, Oliver Arblaster and Femi Seriki in recent matches.
Charlton Athletic’s Impact Player For This Game
Charlton Athletic will need their attacking players to produce something special if they are to halt their recent slide, and Tyreece Campbell could be their biggest threat against Sheffield United.
The forward is Charlton’s leading goalscorer this season, making him the obvious player for the Blades’ defence to keep a close eye on. Nathan Jones’ side have struggled considerably in front of goal during their recent poor run, scoring just six times across their last 11 Championship matches.
He has registered four goals and one assist in 14 appearances, alongside 21 shots, eight of which have tested the goalkeeper. His 17 successful dribbles also demonstrate his willingness to take defenders on and create opportunities through individual ability. Plus, he has registered five big chances and 15 key passes this term so far.
The away side must be particularly wary of his pace and direct running, especially when Charlton look to attack in transition. If Campbell can get isolated against the Blades’ full-backs and find space to run into, he has the ability to cause problems.
Sheffield United’s Impact Player For This Game
Sydie Peck will be the man Sheffield United look towards to provide another influential performance when they travel to The Valley on Saturday afternoon.
The midfielder arrives in London full of confidence after producing a sensational display against Preston North End in midweek, scoring a first-half hat-trick to secure all three points for Chris Wilder’s side.
The 22-year-old has registered four goals and two assists in 14 Championship appearances, has a 49% duel success rate, 21 key passes and four big chances created.
His performance against Preston further demonstrated his attacking instincts. Peck registered six shots, accumulated 1.27 expected goals and recorded six touches inside the opposition penalty area, highlighting his willingness to arrive in dangerous positions.
My Prediction
Charlton Athletic have fond memories of last season’s fixtures against the Blades having beaten them 1-0 home and away.
The Blades will want revenge from last campaign, and considering their excellent form at the moment, unbeaten in their last four matches, they’ll be hoping to extend that to five before the upcoming international break.
I think the Blades can register another three points with a 2-0 victory at The Valley.
