Blackburn Rovers could be boosted by key man’s return against West Brom

Scott Wharton could make his long-awaited return to the Blackburn Rovers matchday squad against West Bromwich Albion this weekend, Tony Mowbray has revealed.

The defender has not featured for the first team this season after suffering an injury in pre-season, but has now come through successive Under-21s appearances without a problem.

His latest outing came against Bolton Wanderers B earlier this week, leaving Mowbray with a decision to make ahead of Saturday’s trip to The Hawthorns.

“Scotty Wharton’s going to join the group, although we’re undecided whether he’s going to be involved or not, but it’s great that he played for the Under-21s,” Mowbray said.

“He might need another week or so of training with the intensity that we train at, but it’s good to have him back and the numbers are increasing all the time.”
