Alexander gives updates on Preston North End’s injury nightmare after Millwall loss
Preston North End boss Graham Alexander gave updates on his side’s injury crisis after their defeat to Millwall.
Graham Alexander’s options were already stretched for the defeat to Millwall, with Johnny Kenny, Stanley Mills and Lewis Gibson all missing alongside Ali McCann and Caleb Wiley.
Kenny is now set to undergo a scan after suffering an injury ahead of the game.
“Johnny pulled out,” Alexander said.
“He actually completed training yesterday (Friday) and then just had something, so we’re sending him for a scan.
“I think yesterday he just felt it was too much of a risk to go into today’s game.”
Gibson was forced to leave the stadium before kick-off because of illness, while Harry Clarke and Callum Lang both picked up issues during the game.
“A couple of lads [were] ill towards the end of the week,” Alexander said.
“We lost Lewis Gibson just before the game, he actually reported to the stadium but had to go home through illness.
“Langy, obviously, when he came off, he ran straight down the tunnel so there’s a bit going on.
“Then Harry, I think he jarred his knee in a challenge. He wanted to go on in the second half at the start of half-time but as it got stiffer over the pause at half-time he just knew he couldn’t continue.”
There was better news on Mills, whose injury is not thought to be serious.
“Stan got an injury last Saturday in a practice match, he hadn’t trained all week,” Alexander added.
“That’s more of a contact injury, it’s not a muscle injury, so we’ll see if he’s available Tuesday and if not maybe Saturday.”
