Team News
Antoine Semenyo is Manchester City’s only confirmed absentee as Matheus Nunes and Nico O'Reilly were both unused substitutes against Villa following returns and are in line to start.
Phil Foden, Floyd Samba, Ayyoub Bouaddi, Mateo Kovacic, Allan and Ryan McAidoo are all available if Enzo Maresca opts to make wholesale changes.
Ferdi Kadioglu and Chema Andres were forced off for Brighton in Sunday’s defeat at Anfield and must be assessed while Kaoru Mitoma, Femi Azeez, Pascal Struijk, Evan Ferguson and Stefanos Tzimas remain sidelined.
However, Mats Wieffer and Yankuba Minteh are nearing a return and may be involved at the Etihad.
Need to know
Manchester City welcome Brighton to the Etihad in the Premier League on Saturday and they also lock horns in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday.
The Citizens defeated Arsenal to win last season’s Carabao Cup and they will be keen to put on a show as they bid to bounce back from Saturday’s 2-1 loss at Aston Villa, which brought an end to their perfect start in the Premier League.
Brighton also suffered defeat in the Premier League last weekend, going down 2-0 at Liverpool, but they remain third in the table having won five of their opening eight games.
Prediction
Manchester City lost their first game of the Premier League season at Aston Villa on Saturday but they had dominated the shot count 15 to seven and should be able to hit back against Brighton in the Carabao Cup.
The Citizens routed Norwich 5-0 in the previous round and, while changes are likely from Enzo Maresca, the same can be expected for Brighton after their 2-0 Premier League loss at Liverpool.
City have been scoring for fun but they have conceded in their last four home games, which includes against Ipswich and Sunderland, and that should offer hope for the Seagulls.
However, City have greater strength in depth and will be keen to defend their League Cup crown.
Phil Foden started on the bench at Villa but he opened the scoring in their previous Premier League clash against Ipswich before netting a hat-trick in an emphatic 5-1 win over AEK Athens in the Champions League.
With confidence restored, Foden could have a starring role to play in another City success.
