Former Argentina coach: Messi is a big liar, and he surpasses Maradona in this game
Camigno relived his memories with the Tango legends
Lionel Messi bid farewell to the Argentina national team with a 3-0 win over Benin, an emotional night at the Monumental. On the sidelines of the match, Julián Camaño, the former assistant coach of the Tango national team, revealed a lesser-known side of The Flea's personality during an interview with Argentine network "TyC Sports": his skill at truco, a card game hugely popular across South America.
Camaño served as assistant to coach Alejandro Sabella during his spell in charge of Argentina between 2011 and 2014. He shared his fondest memories of Messi, right down to the details of their truco matches, the most famous card game in the country.

Smiling, he said: "The truco matches we used to play, for me those are the best memories. We are with him (Messi), the best in the world."
One particular trait, Camaño revealed, makes Messi a nightmare at the table: "A terrible liar, and on top of that he rushes you. He rushes you. We wanted to play against the clock and he didn't want to. His watch is worth 300,000 dollars and ours is worth 20, heh."
Messi or Maradona?
Camaño knows the comparison first-hand. During his playing career he lined up alongside the legendary Diego Armando Maradona for Argentina, and sat down with him for truco too.
He didn't hesitate to settle the matter at the gaming table: "With Diego and with Diego's father, the father and Diego's father-in-law were both astonishing. At the top, you can't imagine how those two used to play truco. But at playing truco Messi is better, without any doubt, a big liar."
