Dynamo Kyiv hold a slender 1-0 lead in this Conference League third qualifying round tie but they look to have their work cut out in the return leg in Azerbaijan.

The Ukrainians are in decent form but Qarabag are a tough nut to crack on home soil and they will fancy their chances of overturning the deficit.

Team News

Qarabag pair Kady Borges and Qurbanly are pushing for starting berths, but defender Cebrails Makreckis is suspended following his late red card in the first leg.

Last week's match-winner Matviy Ponomarenko is pushing to return to the starting side after coming on as a substitute to score the decisive goal in Dynamo's 2-1 weekend victory over Veres-Rivne.

The Stats

  • One or both teams have failed to score in each of Qarabag's last five matches

  • Dynamo Kyiv have failed to score in their last two European away matches

  • Qarabag have kept clean sheets in three of their last four home games

  • Qarabag are averaging 2.25 goals per game across their last 10 home outings

Prediction

Ponomarenko's 10th-minute strike was enough to give Dynamo Kyiv the advantage in this Conference League clash but the Ukrainians may struggle to back up that win in the return leg in Azerbaijan on Thursday.

Qarabag dominated much of that contest in Lublin, enjoying 61% possession, but failed to make the most of it by firing a blank.

That is unlikely to be the case this week as the Azerbaijan giants are a strong side at the Tofiq Bahramov Stadium, where they have kept clean sheets in their last three competitive outings.

Backing the hosts to win to nil looks the best bet as Kyiv have struggled on the road in recent matches, particularly in European competition where they have failed to score in their last two away fixtures.

A 2-0 loss at PAOK on July 30 ended their Europa League hopes and their European adventures could be completely over by way of a similar result in Baku on Thursday.

Qarabag are averaging 2.25 goals per game across their last 10 on home soil, so a 2-0 win looks well within reach, and a place in the play-off round with it.

Kyiv will look to hold on to their advantage but an away goal looks unlikely, as just four of Qarabag's last 10 home games have seen both teams get on the scoresheet, while they have conceded at a rate of just 0.25 goals per game in that 10-match sequence.
