Why Liam Rosenior’s most worrying moment at Chelsea was winning five games in a row
Liam Rosenior has blamed unfair perceptions of him for the reason his Chelsea spell turned into such a disaster.
Liam Rosenior’s spell at Chelsea always smelled like a disaster in the making, and so it proved.
Plucked from our sister club Strasbourg, where he was doing well, the up and coming young manager was given an offer he couldn’t refuse at Stamford Bridge – even though it was clear to everyone he wasn’t ready for the job and was walking into a nightmare situation.
It went about as badly as it could, and Rosenior lasted just four months.
We’re delighted that the coach hasn’t hurt his reputation – he’s already back in France, now at Paris FC doing exceptionally well. For the first time, he has quotes out about his time at Chelsea and how he was treated.
Rosenior says “fantastic” Chelsea experience helped him
“It was the best experience of my life, and the hardest too,” Rosenior said in quoted picked up by SportWitness.
“It was fantastic, even though it only lasted four months… what happened there has nothing to do with football.”
“The moment that worried me the most was at the beginning, when we went through that five-game winning streak. Any club would have been happy with such a run, but not Chelsea.
“You get good results and you’re in the spotlight. Then, there was a kind of snowball effect in the media.”
Rosenior pointed to the way he was treated for how he spoke, and how he was turned into a figure of fun. There’s no doubt some of that treatment was unfair – but in the end it was the players who lost belief in him and cost him his job, not the media or fans.
