A sweeping attack!

Paris Saint-Germain stunned Villarreal on their own patch, firing four goals in just 17 minutes during the fourth round of the Champions League league phase. It set an unprecedented record in the competition's history.

João Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute. Désiré Doué made it two three minutes later, before Senny Mayulu stretched the lead with a third in the 13th minute. Fabián Ruiz completed the rout in the 17th minute.

16 minutes and two seconds only!

Paris Saint-Germain are now the fastest team in UEFA Champions League history to score four goals in a single match, according to "Mister Chip" statistics. It took them just 16 minutes and two seconds.

The French side smashed the previous record held by Real Madrid, who struck four times inside 20 minutes against Dinamo Zagreb in November 2011. Paris pulled it off away from home.

Saint-Germain also became the first team to net three away goals within the first 13 minutes of a Champions League match. They beat the old mark set by Borussia Dortmund, who scored three in 17 minutes against Legia Warsaw in 2016.

Best goalscoring start

The records did not stop there. Paris Saint-Germain became the second French club to score four goals within the first 20 minutes of a Champions League match, following Stade de Reims, who managed the same against Ards (Northern Ireland) on 8 October 1958.

Four rounds in, the Parisians have racked up 18 goals. That marks their best scoring start at this stage of the tournament, beating their previous record of 17 goals in the group stage of the 2017-2018 season.
