Top 5 players that played for both Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais
Lyon and PSG are set to clash in Ligue 1 at the Parc des Princes on Matchday 8. This clash will decide who will sit at the top of the league with Lyon currently occupying the spot due to their goal difference.
This game was postponed to Monday amid safety concerns due the current situation in France and the French capital. Throughout their story, both clubs made history in Ligue 1 and also shared numerous players who marked both teams.
Here are the top five players that played for both PSG and Lyon.
Top five greatest players to play for both PSG and Lyon
1- Bradley Barcola
The most recent player from this list, and yet he is at the top. While he did not become an incredible player at Lyon, Barcola managed to make his way into their first team and became a regular for his boyhood club alognside Alexandre Lacazette, Corentin Tolisso and Anthony Lopes before a €45 million move to the French capital and PSG.
With Paris and under Luis Enrique, he will make history, winning two consecutive Champions League titles in three years. He was a crucial piece of these historical achievements. However, looking for a bigger role and a new challenge, he joined the Premier League and Liverpool for €145 million this summer.
2- Ludovic Giuly
Ludovic Giuly could be considered a legend in both clubs, he started his career with Lyon in 1998 and won several titles with the club over his six-year spell, being part of the most successful era of the club before a move to Monaco in 2004. He then joined PSG in the later stage of his career, playing three seasons just before the arrival of QSI at the club.
3- Christophe Jallet
Certainly the most underrated player of this list. The France international right-back joined PSG in 2009 from Lorient and quickly became a key player of the club despite QSI's takeover and the arrivals of all the stars at the club such as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and the others. Just like Blaise Matuidi, he always managed to make himself important for all the different coaches of the squad as he remained extremely reliable throughout his tenure. All of this helped to make him a fan favourite.
He then joined Lyon in 2014 where he still delivered top performances throughout his three seasons at the club.
4- Grégory Coupet
The only goalkeeper of this list is a legend at Lyon, he wore this shirt for 11 years and was an integral part of the most successful period in the history of the club as he featured in 520 games. He was one of the best goalkeeper in Europe in that span. Paris was the last club of his career, which he joined in 2009 before retiring in 2011 just as the club was took over by QSI.
5- Hatem Ben Arfa
Ben Arfa is without a doubt the most talented player of this list. He started his career at Lyon and quickly caught the eyes of football fans due to his agility and technical ability with the ball. He was a real joy to watch. However, his behaviour and mentality were his biggest weaknesses and cost him a greater legacy. I personally believe that he could have been as great as Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo with a better mentality.
Later in his career he played for PSG after a great stint at OGC Nice, but was quickly cast away due to his behaviour.
