Chelsea's emphatic 5-1 win over Bournemouth saw them shoot up to sixth in the Premier League table.

The Blues appeared to be the biggest beneficiaries of the recent three-week international break.

Two goals from Jordan Henderson and Joao Pedro, as well as one from £117 million summer-signing Morgan Rogers, put the Cherries to the sword, giving Xabi Alonso his third league victory of the season.

Alonso is in the midst of overseeing a transformation and Rogers believes the side's new approach, which has seen the team score a series of early goals, is all down to the former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen boss.

Saturday's match at Stamford Bridge saw that trend continue with the Blues netting twice in the opening three minutes.

"I put it down to the manager's team talks," Rogers said during his post-Bournemouth interview, via Yahoo Sports.

"He gets us firing, gets us going. We always want to start off on the front foot. It is about starting well and getting the lead."

Rogers continued: "A lot of games, especially at home, we have won after jumping on the back of early goals. It's a good trait to have which we need to keep doing."

The 24-year-old's third-minute strike against Bournemouth was his fourth of the campaign.

Everton will pose a different challenge

Next up for Chelsea is an away trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Blues are set to face David Moyes' Everton on Saturday with the Toffees in superb form having not lost so far this campaign.

While Chelsea will probably come into the match as favourites, Alonso will know his team must continue to take their chances when they come.

Although Moyes' unbeaten run has largely consisted of draws, the Toffees will pose a challenge at both ends of the pitch.

After getting past Bournemouth relatively unscathed, Alonso should have all his best attackers to pick from when the side travels to Merseyside later this week.

History is also on the Blues' side having lost just once to Everton in the Premier League since April 2024.

Prior to Chelsea's 3-0 defeat to the Toffees at the end of last season, the side hadn't conceded a single goal in the fixture since the start of December 2023.

Fans will be expecting to see the same kind of attacking display as the one which so convincingly dismantled Bournemouth.

Despite this, Alonso and his backroom staff will also be mindful of the threat the home team can pose at the other end of the pitch, including the in form Thierno Barry.
