Aaron Anselmino is almost back and Xabi Alonso finally had some positive news about him in his press conference.

There were a number of players Xabi Alonso was asked about in his press conference yesterday, with injuries currently keeping several first team stars out of contention.

One particularly interesting case was a player who has been almost forgotten this season. Aaron Anselmino has had a bad run of injuries since signing for Chelsea, and that’s continued this year.

He’s not played a minute for the Blues this season, and while it’s not been a concern so far, the injury to Maxence Lacroix has brought him into the picture. The Argentine was finally spotted back in training this week, and was even named in the Argentina squad.

According to Alonso, the defender is almost back.

Alonso to decide on Anselmino presence

“He’s doing everything, and tomorrow [Saturday] we’ll decide, but he could be in the squad, yes. They [Argentina] asked us and he has been training better for the last 10 days, and it’s very important for him have this first call-up,” Alonso explained.

We’d expect he is on the bench tomorrow and doesn’t feature (barring an emergency). The time with Argentina will hopefully help him get some match minutes into his legs so we can use him when he’s back.

In other news…

Cole Palmer named Romeo Lavia as one of the most underrated players in the Premier League in a Sky Sports interview.

Cole had an interesting pick in another category too – he named a half forgotten winger as Chelsea’s most skilful player.

Xabi Alonso’s press conference yesterday had updates on a number of injured players, including Jorrel Hato.
